Power of Lens
The ability of a lens to converge or diverge light rays is called power (P) of the lens. It is defined as the reciprocal of focal length,If the length of a lens is measured in meters (m) than its reciprocal gives the power of the lens.
f = focal length measured in meters
P = Power of the lens measured in diopter (D).
Thus, dioptre is the power of a lens whose focal length is 1 metre. If focal length is given in centimetre, then
Illustration: if we take lens with focal length of 2 meter then find the power of the lens
Solution:Given focal length f= 2 m
Hence the power is 0.5 D
